Need is a very interesting word. It is defined as, “Require something because it is essential or very important.” So based on logic, are bodybuilding supplement stacks required? The answer to that question depends.
The biggest deciding factor on any need is your personal goals. What do you hope to accomplish with your time in the gym? Are you trying to achieve a perfect body in the least amount of time or do you just want to make steady progress and time isn’t an issue?
The thing about bodybuilding supplement stacks is that you can survive without them. Looking back at bodybuilders of the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s gives a very clear picture of what you can accomplish from hard work, a good diet, and limited supplements. However as supplements became a big business, more people have been able to create amazing physiques as evident by looking around the bodybuilding world in the past 10 years. Regardless of aesthetic preference, bodybuilders of the past decade are much larger and more defined than previous eras.
So what has been the biggest difference? This increased use of stacks along with the increased effectiveness of them.
Bigger and Better
The body in itself is limited. It can only naturally produce so much of what it needs, such as Creatine, each day. Also it can only digest food at a certain pace and farm needed nutrients from that food at a certain speed. There is simply no way to speed those processes up.
That fixed speed places a limit on how much your body can do in regards to strength, stamina, speed, endurance, muscle recovery, and muscle growth. Even with the perfect diet and workout you have a specific ceiling you can reach regarding development each day, week, and year.
However, things change when you add bodybuilding supplement stacks. Now suddenly the ceiling has increased in regards to what you can accomplish. Suddenly you can get the exact fuel your body needs when it needs it. Before a workout out you add Creatine to ensure the body has an adequate supply for the workout. What would normally take the body days to create you ingest and absorb in an hour. The same goes for amino acids, the building blocks of muscle. Then you add vitamins, minerals, and other compounds to accelerate training, growth, and recovery.
Scientists have learned how to create timed release products that then provide more of what you need when you need it, even hours after ingestion. Essentially you are providing your body premium fuel to maximize the performance of your engine with more horsepower whereas before you gave it regular.
The Bottom Line
So do you need bodybuilding supplement stacks? The answer is a resounding yes if you are serious about bodybuilding and actual muscle gains. On the other hand if you feel that they aren’t worth the cost then obviously you are not as serious about reaching your goals as quickly as possible.
The easiest way to look at it is all that hard work and effort you put in at the gym at best gets you to 100% of your potential. But, if a great supplement stack can get you to 150% of your potential, is it worth it? Answering that question lets you know if you need them or not.
